It’s in our hardest moments that our thoughts spiral – we wonder, “Why me?” And if you look hard enough, you’ll find so many things that cause you worry and despair. We carry the weight of worry, and sometimes, without realizing it, our pain turns into questions we direct at Allah, straining our faith.
But if we paused to reflect on Allah’s countless blessings and His ongoing mercy, we’d see that our struggles – though heavy – shrink in comparison to His favor.
Today, I want to invite you to focus on the blessings.
Allah’s Favor upon us is vast and as such, gratitude is a constant necessity. How often do you just show gratitude to Allah when it’s not connected with an immediate achievement or blessing?
If we are grateful, He will increase His favors upon us and if we are patient during trials, relying on Him alone, He rewards our patience.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Wondrous is the affair of the believer, for there is good for him in every matter — and this is not the case with anyone except the believer. If he is happy, then he thanks Allah, and thus there is good for him. If he is harmed, then he shows patience, and thus there is good for him.” [Sahih Muslim, Hadith number 2999].
This hadith teaches us that no matter the circumstance, there is always goodness to be found. In times of joy, gratitude magnifies our happiness and draws more blessings. In times of hardship, patience becomes a source of growth and reward. Both states are opportunities for our faith to deepen and for our hearts to become more resilient.
Dear sisters, let us train ourselves to focus on the blessings — both great and small — and to maintain a heart full of gratitude and patience. Let us remind ourselves that Allah’s mercy is nearer to us than our jugular vein (as mentioned in a sahih hadith), and He hears every whispered prayer and every silent plea.
When you find yourself overwhelmed, try to shift your gaze from the burden to the blessings, from the pain to the mercy. This shift in focus will strengthen your iman, ease your heart, and bring tranquility to your soul.
May Allah fill our hearts with gratitude, grant us patience in trials, and shower us with His endless mercy and blessings. Ameen.
