Assalamu ’Alaykum,
In the Islamic Days of the Week, one day is special; Yawmul-Jumu’ah.
That is, the Day of Congregation. Believers are expected to leave their homes to converge in mosques that hold large numbers of people to observe the 2 Raka’ah prayer that replace the regular day Dhuhr prayer.
The Day of Jumu’ah falls on Friday and is considered a weekly ‘Eid for Muslims. However, like all acts of worship, it must be observed as taught by the Prophet ﷺ – no new practices, greetings, or rituals should be introduced that are not rooted in authentic Sunnah.
The way and manner it is described in the Qur’an, how it is done by the Prophet, and understood by the 3 earliest generations we must stick to.
So, let us stay away from saying Jumu’ah Mubarak as this is neither from the practice of our Prophet and the Sahabahs, nor of those who came after them.
Earlier, we discussed the Sunan related to the Jumu’ah Mosque and this week, we will look at the personal ones.
Before you leave home for Jumu’ah, take note of the following:
- Ghusl (according to some scholars, it is mandatory for the one going to the mosque)
- Smell Good: Men should apply perfume.
- The Fitrah: It is not wrong for people to do the fitrah on Fridays | but it’s not Sunnah (trimming the nails if long, shaving the pubes & armpit if necessary, and trimming the moustache)
- Best of Clothes: It is narrated that the Prophet had a coat/jubbah that he would wear on Fridays and Eid.
- The Miswak (pako/tooth stick) is recommended before every Salah and the Jumu’ah is not an exception. The follower stops using the Miswak when the Imam mounts the Minbar to start the Khutbah.
May Allah Accept all our deeds and Grant us Jannah. Aameen.
