When I suggest to some sisters to set aside a regular time for a task they’ve been finding challenging or for building a new habit, they often feel hesitant or unsure.
Do you know why this is so important? Because setting a specific time creates focus – a clear signal to yourself that this moment is dedicated to reading, exercising, memorizing the Qur’an, or whatever task you’ve chosen. It allows you to engage deeply, minimizing distractions and mental noise. It also helps build a strong mind-and-body connection, teaching yourself that this time is meant solely for this purpose.
Think about Salah! Why are the daily prayers fixed to a particular time of the day? Why can’t you pray 5 times daily at whatever time you want?
The essence of Salah is in being prompt towards its time. The Prophet did say the essence of Salah is its time. It shows discipline in keeping an appointment with Allah daily. Also, your body naturally reminds you it’s time for Salah even when you don’t have access to a clock or watch. Your body is so used to praying at a specific time/hour that it doesn’t need to
“ struggle, because you’ve been consistent.
This is the same way other habits can be built. If you want a thing to be a part of your life and you’ve struggled with it, like waking up on time, sleep early at a particular time frame daily and use an alarm to wake you at that same time daily.
You want to memorize the Qur’an or read beneficial books regularly? Pick a time of the day, or fix the action in between two things you do without fail everyday, and you’ll see a change.
You don’t have to start with perfecting it, and you’ll have days you’ll struggle or fail at it, so start small and slowly build towards a consistency that’s admirable.
The Prophet ﷺ said, The most beloved deed to Allah is the most consistent, even if it were little” (Bukhari)
May Allah Make it easy.
